During his first speech in the Middle East as Secretary General of Nato, Anders Fogh Rasmussen invited Jordan to closer collaborate with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in terms of fighting terrorism.

King Abudullah's Amman Message from 2004 was laudatory mentioned as an example of Jordan’s willingness to cooperate regardless of political or religious issues for the benefit of peace and humanity.

The purpose of Rasmussen’s visit was to reaffirm his commitment to strengthen partnership between Nato and Jordan.

He commended Jordan for the steady increase of political dialogue with Nato, great accession in practical cooperation especially military-military cooperation and the benefits for the Jordanian people out of the cooperation.

Referring to Afghanistan, Rasmussen called on the kingdom known for its military training and education to train Afghan national security forces as it has done already with its neighbor country Iraq. Optimistically he announced that Afghanistan with the help of Nato will soon be able to stand on its own feet.

“Faith should bring us together, not devide us!”, the Secretary General pointed out and encouraged Muslims to take part in the fight against terrorism.
