The Community Media Network organized, Thursday, for the seventh year in a row, a Human Rights Bazaar with the participation of local NGOs. The event supported by the European Union is aimed to educate and raise consciousness of citizens and residents about their rights in different areas.

This year, the bazaar was themed "Committed to Human Rights for a Better Life" and marked the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Celebrated annually on December 10th, Human Rights Day commemorates one of the most pioneering global pledges, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This historic document enshrines the inalienable rights that every individual is entitled to enjoy.

Angela Martini, head of Political, Press and Information Section, Charge d’affaires of the European Union Delegation to Jordan who attended the event along with Adam Janssen, Counsellor of Human Rights at the mission expressed her happiness to see such a strong interest in human rights. “I am pleased to see so many people, including young students, learn about their rights and the universal declaration of human rights,” she said to the crowded participants.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the declaration in Paris on December 10, 1948, establishing fundamental human rights that must be protected worldwide.

The event aimed to highlight the steadfast commitment to defending human rights at all times and in all places. It took place as increasing challenges and clear violations of basic human rights standards, particularly in Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Yemen, and other regions, continued. The event also served as a reminder to states, especially major powers, of the necessity of fulfilling their humanitarian obligations to ensure the application of these universal standards.
Daoud Kuttab, the Director General of Community Media Network, noted that the slogan ‘Our Commitment to Human Rights’ emphasizes unequivocally that the international justice system and the principles enshrined in international laws and humanitarian law are the sole compass we must adhere to, no matter how war criminals attempt to ignore them. He said that the well-attended event “embodies this commitment and insistence that human rights are for all times and all people.”

Etaf Roudan, Director of Radio Al-Balad, stated, “We faced significant challenges in continuing to celebrate Human Rights Day amidst the violations and marginalization of basic human standards across several countries in our region. However, we believe that consistently speaking about the importance of adhering to these standards is a commitment that everyone must respect, and there is no justification for abandoning it. Therefore, we remain committed to our professional and human rights standards, hoping everyone can enjoy equal rights and fair opportunities in all aspects of life.”
The bazaar featured 24 human rights organizations and civil society institutions. The event aimed to inform citizens and residents about their rights in various areas, alongside local businesses presenting alternative Jordanian products. A large number of persons with disabilities participated in the bazaar along with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Digital Violence Against Women Journalists Network in Jordan was among the participants. The network, comprising a group of Jordanian female journalists, aims to combat the phenomenon of digital violence. Team member Rawan Nakhla explained that their participation aimed to introduce the network’s role and support female journalists in facing increasing challenges. Educational materials were also provided to participants to raise awareness about this issue.
Shadia Abu Al-Sundus, a social specialist from Al-Malath Society, emphasized that their participation is aimed at introducing the organization and its mission of providing palliative care to patients with incurable illnesses. She highlighted the importance of such activities in raising awareness about the significance of psychological support and palliative care.
Rania Al-Jaabari, Director of Dar Al-Dahnoon, pointed out the importance of the bazaar in promoting awareness of the organization’s role in encouraging children to read. She added that the attendance of school students provided a valuable opportunity to engage with them and emphasize the importance of reading in building their skills and enriching their culture.
