Jordanian merchant Khalil Saad Abdul-Khaliq Al-Sadr threatens to give up his and his children's citizenship after he was investigated and humiliated by security forces rather than assisted in his case of detention in Syria in 2008 where he was stripped of all of his money.

He added that he had received a letter from the security authorities that prevented him from traveling outside of Jordan after he attempted to travel to Egypt a few days before. They informed him they needed to meet with him and added that, "the meeting will not be a waste of your time."

Khalil and his family lived in Damascus where he traded merchandise until he was charged by Syrian authorities for "collaborating with Israel." He was detained for several months in Palestine at the request of Syrian authorities, without any evidence. He denied the charges altogether and said the accusations were not based on any evidence.

He spoke with 'AmmanNet' about how Syrian forces arrested his three children, "my 25 year old daughter, 14 year old son, and 13 year old daughter." They were charged with spying for the CIA of the United States of America for three months.

Khalil filed a complaint regarding his situation to the National Center for Human Rights that was acknowledged in February 2009 and transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where it was classified as "under consideration." A staff member at the Center explained to him that he needed to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to get his case reviewed.

Media spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jordan, Mohammad Kayed, explained to 'AmmanNet' that their role is limited in influencing the Jordanian embassy in Syria. The Ministry receives information and attempts to clarify the cases in order to restore any rights that were violated.

Khalil filed several complaints in 2009 to each Ministry to follow up the case in Syria as well as complained to the National Center for Human Rights and the Red Cross, however none of them did anything to help him.

In his opinion, complaining to human rights organizations does not yield any results, the only solution is to withdraw his own citizenship in order to get the government to hear him. Khalil promised a series of protests outside the headquarters of the United Nations.
