Simple work in Jordan is still very low paid. An example sets a small 24/7 coffee shop in Wadi Saqra. The 25 year old Palestinian origin employee works twelve hours a day seven days a week receiving a payment of 200JD a month.
His actual profit of half a dinar per hour lets him earn around 16 times less than a non-skilled German equivalent. Desperation is high and the dream of emigrating omnipresent yet unachievable for most.
Working 84 hours a week also doesn’t leave much time to think about getting a degree and improve the chance of a better salary.
