Rooney, Scholes out of Man United squad
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed a double setback as injury has ruled Wayne Rooney out for up to three weeks and Paul Scholes for 10 days.
Rooney, 23, was substituted on the hour mark in the 2-2 draw after he had picked up an ankle knock. The blow could see him miss England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on October as well as United's impending matches against Valencia in the Champions League and Sunderland in the Premier League.
Speaking to reporters, Ferguson revealed the timespan Rooney is expected to be out of action.
"It will be two to three weeks," Ferguson was quoted as saying by Press Association Sport. "But it depends because Wayne has done quite well with his recovery from injury in the past."
Ferguson also stated that evergreen midfielder Paul Scholes is set for a spell on the sidelines with a calf strain. The Scot is also toying with the possibility of teaming Rio Ferdinand with Nemanja Vidic at centre-back in Spain tomorrow night.
