Obese specialist surgeon Dr. Eyad Eid has denied that he has signed the letter sent to Prime Minister Marouf Al-Bakhit dated February 16 2011 in which he recommends to allow treating convict Khaled Shaheen abroad.
Dr. Eid has told AmmanNet that he has no idea about the letter published on the prime ministry website on Sunday as he said ‘I did not see or sign it’.
The prime ministry has published on its electronic website the medical reports of Khaled Shaheen upon which he was allowed to travel to the US to receive medical treatment.
The published reports said ‘we ask your Excellency to order to whom it may need to take the required procedures to guarantee the travel of businessman Khaled Shaheen for extreme importance and as soon as possible’. This letter was addressed to Prime Minister Marouf Al-Bakhit and signed by seven doctors including Eid.
Eid said he wondered about the sentence mentioned in the report saying that it is not his responsibility to ask the PM to allow a patient to travel abroad for importance and ASAP. Dr, Eyad has pointed at the fact that the government has formed a specialized committee to study the circumstances of Shaheen’s travel based on the medical reports submitted. Dr. Eid refused to be held responsible for this.
Dr. Eyad did not deny the fact that he has recommended the travel of Khaled Shaheen to be treated abroad as his treatment does not exist in the kingdom.
He insisted that he did not sign any document other than the medical report issued by him and the covering letter of the 11 doctors.
Eyad also added that he did not sign any letter written in the Arabic language saying that the signature might be taken from the medical report addressed to the PM.
