Australia's Ognenovski named 2010 AFC 'Player Of The Year'
Australian international Sasa Ognenovski has been voted 2010 AFC Player of the Year at a ceremony in Kualu Lumpur on Wednesday.
The Seongnam Ilhwa defender shrugged off the competition of Bader Al Mutawa (Al Qadisiya/Kuwait), Farhad Majidi (Esteghlal/Iran), Farshid Talebi (Zobahan/Iran) and Husain Salman (Al Riffa/Bahrain).
It's the first time the 31-year-old Ognenovski has been crowned AFC Footballer of the Year. The highly rated defender played a key role in Seongnam's Asian Champions League victory this term and also made his international debut for Australia.
Ognenovski started his career with Preston Lions and also wore the jerseys of Melbourne Knights, Panahaiki, Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues, Queensland Roar and Adelaide United before joining his current team in January 2009.
Meanwhile, South Korean powerhouse Seongnam Ilhwa were voted AFC Club of the Year for winning the Asian Champions League this campaign. Furthermore, DPR Korea youngster Gwan Jong-Il was crowned AFC Young Player of the Year, while former Japan coach Takeshi Okada won the award for AFC Coach of the Year.
