Jordan sends humanitarian aid to Libya

AMMAN (JT) - The Kingdom on Monday dispatched an aircraft to Benghazi laden with relief supplies to alleviate the suffering of the Libyan people amid escalating violence in the North African country.

The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) plane, carrying 10 tonnes of medical supplies, foodstuff and relief aid, is part of the Kingdom's commitment to decisions by the Arab League and the international community to extend logistic and humanitarian aid to the people of Libya, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In February, RJAF and Royal Jordanian planes were dispatched, upon His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives, to bring home Jordanians and Arab nationals who were stranded in Libyan cities.

Last week, members of the Jordanian diplomatic mission in Libya left the Kingdom’s embassy in Tripoli and returned to Amman.

The foreign ministry said the current situation in Libya did not allow the embassy to continue working normally and the diplomats are not expected to be sent back to the North African country soon.

The ministry also said that all Jordanians in the country who wanted to leave Libya had already left, while some chose to remain.
