Daoud Kuttab among 60 World Press Freedom champs

Vienna – The International Press Institution is set to honor, on Monday, colleague Daoud Kuttab with the title of World Press Freedom Hero in the light of celebrating its 60th birthday in a huge gathering to be held in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Kuttab was mentioned among 60 media figures from all over the world that include from the Arab world: May Chediaq of Lebanon and Syrian journalist Nizar Nayouf who lives in France.

In commenting on this honoring, Kuttab said he receives this award on behalf of many anonymous press heroes. There are many Arab journalists who sacrificed their lives and money for the cause of expression freedom, yet, they are unfortunately still unknown for international institutions, he added.

It is to be mentioned that Kuttab started his career back in 1980 in Palestine at Al-Fajr newspaper then Al-Quds newspaper. He also participated in establishing Ameen news website and Al-Quds educational television. Mr. Daoud has been suspended on the hands of Israeli occupying forces and the Palestinian Authority for broadcasting a session of the Palestinian Legislative Council regarding corruption in the national authority.

In the year 2000, Kuttab has established Ammannet Radio, the first Arab Radio on the internet. He is now the head of the Community Media Network (CMN), a non-profit media institution that runs Al-Balad Radio, Ammannet website, and PNN community media institution in both Jordan and Palestine.

Mr. Daoud resides as well the board of trusties at Areej investigational press network. He also publish his own articles in many newspapers and websites such as Jordan Times, Ameen website, Palestine News Network, and Ammannet. International newspapers publish some of his articles, the last of which was the one published by the Washington Post last week.
