The 35th European Film Festival kicks off on Sept. 29

Amman- Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali, the 35th edition of the European Film Festival, funded by the European Union in Jordan and co-organised with EUNIC, will take place from 30 September to 13 October at the Haya Cultural Center Theater.

The Festival will start on 29 September at the Royal Film Commission and is organised in collaboration with EU Member States’ Embassies and the network of European Cultural Institutes in Jordan (EUNIC).

It will feature 18 European and Jordanian films, many of which are award-winning, including the Belgian movie “Close,” the Swiss movie “Last Dance”, the Italian movie “Figli”, the French musical  “Aline,” the Spanish movie “Schoolgirls – Las Niñas”,  the Romanian movie “Mikado, the German movie “Mein Sohn”, the Czech movie “Buko”,  the Hungarian movie “Stop My Step Mom”, the Jordanian movies “Chronicles of her” and “A Gaza Weekend”.

All screenings are free of charge for the public and all movies will be subtitled in both Arabic and English.

This year, Switzerland and Jordan will both be guest countries at the Festival and the British-Palestinian movie “A Gaza Weekend” will be screened at the closing night.

Commenting on the European Film Festival, the EU Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Pierre-Christophe CHATZISAVAS, noted:  “For 35 years, together with our Jordanian partners, we have tried to offer Jordanians and Europeans alike a space to discuss Jordanian and European cinema. We have done this because we love cinema. But we have also done this because we think that cinema, more generally culture is more than culture. Culture fosters social inclusion, mutual understanding, it helps combat prejudice, extremism. It is a key vehicle for dialogue within a society, and with other societies.”

The Festival, as in previous years, is accompanied by a "Mobile Film Competition" organised in cooperation with SAE Institute Jordan, a leading media arts institute. More details on the competition, its topics, participation terms and conditions are available on the Festival's website: www.euffjordan.com

The European Film Festival (EUFF) is the longest-running foreign film festival in Jordan.

This year’s festival is the result of a cooperation with the Royal Film Commission, the Greater Amman Municipality, SAE Institute, LOYAC and Orange Jordan.

Media partnerships include: Roya TV, Watar FM, Mood FM, Beat FM and Hawa Amman radio.
