The chairperson of the Municipal Committee of Karak Alkabeer, engineer Lama Almajali, resigned Wednesday from the chairmanship of the municipality due to the inability to fight corruption, she told AmmanNet.

Almajali said she tried recently to disclose financial and administrative irregularities in the municipality, however she was met with strong opposition. She said that the Committee is not capable of providing services to the community under the existing employment conditions and pointed out that it will direct all the documents related to issues of corruption to the Minister of Municipal Affairs to take appropriate action.

The problem erupted in Karak on Tuesday after the decision to re-employ staff members of the municipality to their original job title after their job description was changed from driver to foreman.

Almajali said, "If the decision to re-employ workers causes all of these problems, how do we even expect the municipality to function?"

The fight turned into a tribal brawl between the employees and the manager who made the decision.

It is indicated that the sit-in carried out earlier this month was to demand Almajali's dismissal and protest against the reality of work in the municipality.
