Union: Some cases receive less than JD5.

JD10 is the only amount of money the Nurses Union has decided to give the family of the late nurse Sabah Al-Momani, following 18 years of service as a nurse.

The complaint that AmmanNet received explains that Sabah’s family is demanding that this unjust decision be reviewed, especially since Al-Momani had been registered with the Union since 1994, while her husband paid her financial obligations. Sabah held a Bachelor’s degree in nursing as well as a diploma from the Princess Muna Collage for Nursing.

According to her husband, his late wife had a car accident three months ago, after which she entered a coma. Sabah died on August 15, 2010, and her family subsequently notified the Union and requested her financial benefits, providing the necessary documents.

The Nurses Union responded that they were waiting for the Union Council’s meeting to make a decision. The Council notified the family after two weeks, deciding Sabah’s pension was to be JD10 only.

The problem, according to the husband, is that the law gives a nurse who served for 30 years a pension of JD150, and this is considered unjust for all others who serve for less time than this.

The Nurses Union President Khaled Abu Azizeh explained this low amount with the reasoning that Sabah only joined the pension fund in March 2008, and that she had not paid her dues for the last 5 months.

Abu Azizeh added that his Union calculates the pension by multiplying the number of paid months (24) by the salary (JD150), then dividing it by 360. The result at the end is 10.
