Prime Minister Marouf Al-Bakhit announced that the government has decided to withdraw the general budget law project for the year 2011 from the House of Representatives.
This withdrawal came during the regular parliamentarian session held on Sunday, Bakhit explaining it as the government’s response to the call of the financial committee presided over by Ayman Majali.
Al-Bakhit added that his cabinet will initiate the new project within a short period of time.
This response came in light of the argument among parliamentarian financial committee members about distortions in the budget submitted by former Prime Minister Samir Rifai’s cabinet.
As for the American veto against the United Nations Council’s decision to condemn continued Israeli settlement-building, Al-Bakhit described this as a disappointing decision for the Palestinian people, affecting the US’s credibility as a mediator in the peace process.
Minister of Interior Naser Jodeh has issued a statement condemning this veto on behalf of the cabinet, and the MP’s have delegated the permanent bureau at the parliament to issue a statement on their behalf.
The PM has reiterated the importance of the teachers union and improving their living circumstances. He said that his cabinet will set the standards by which the union will be established.
From his side, MP Mamdouh Abbadi has confirmed that the government will be able to establish this union within two days, yet Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit continues to manipulate this date.
