Oussama Tannane produced one of the most extraordinary goals ever seen in an Arab Cup final, scoring from inside his own half to launch Morocco’s dramatic 3–2 extra-time victory over Jordan and secure their second FIFA Arab Cup title at the Qatar-hosted tournament.

The Lusail Stadium in Doha was packed to capacity on Thursday, and the crowd was on its feet just four minutes into the final. Tannane, who plays his club football in Qatar, spotted goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila off his line and unleashed an audacious strike from an estimated 59 metres. The ball sailed over the scrambling Jordan keeper, who collided with the post in a desperate attempt to recover, forcing a four-minute stoppage before he was cleared to continue.

That astonishing opener set the tone for a final full of twists and emotional swings. Jordan, runners-up at the 2025 AFC Asian Cup, refused to fold and gradually clawed their way back into the contest. Early in the second half, Ali Olwan escaped his marker to head home from close range following a well-executed corner, restoring parity three minutes after the restart.

Jordan then took the lead for the first time in the 68th minute. Mahmoud Al Mardi’s effort struck the raised hand of Achraf El Mahdioui inside the penalty area, and Olwan calmly converted from the spot to claim his second goal of the night.

As Jordan edged closer to a historic first Arab Cup title, Morocco struck back late on. Substitute Abderrazak Hamdallah equalised in the 88th minute, reacting quickest on the goal line after a chaotic scramble from a corner to force the match into extra time.

Jordan nearly sealed the trophy in the dying seconds of normal time when Olwan was sent clean through on goal, but he was unable to beat the goalkeeper and complete what would have been a memorable hat-trick.

Extra time delivered yet more drama. Jordan briefly thought they had found a winning moment when Mohannad Abutaha volleyed a stunning left-footed strike into the top right corner from the edge of the box. However, VAR intervened and the goal was controversially ruled out for handball in the buildup.

Moments later, Morocco delivered the decisive blow. From a set piece, Marwane Saadane attempted a spectacular bicycle kick, and the ball fell kindly to Hamdallah, who tapped in from close range to score his second goal of the match and clinch the title.

The victory sees Morocco lift the FIFA Arab Cup for the second time, having previously won the tournament in 2012 with a final victory over Libya in Saudi Arabia. The Atlas Lions take over the crown from Algeria, who defeated Tunisia in the final four years ago.
