Mauritanian Referee Appointed for Jordan vs Austria World Cup Clash

The FIFA Referees Committee has announced the officiating team for Jordan's opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Austria in the first round of Group J.

Jordan are set to face Austria at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday in what will mark the national team's first-ever appearance at the World Cup. Jordan are also the only Arab nation making their tournament debut in the current edition.

The Nashama have been drawn in Group J alongside defending champions Argentina, whom they will face on June 28 in their final group-stage match. Jordan will also take on Algeria on June 23 in the second round of group fixtures.

Jordan will be aiming for a strong start despite suffering defeats in both of their pre-World Cup friendlies, losing 4-1 to Switzerland and 2-0 to Colombia.

Dahane Beida to officiate Jordan vs Austria

FIFA has appointed Mauritanian referee Dahane Beida to take charge of Jordan's opening encounter against Austria at Bay Arena in San Francisco, California.

Beida will be assisted by Jerson Santos of Angola as first assistant referee and Elvis Noupue of Cameroon as second assistant referee. Oshane Nation of Jamaica has been named fourth official, while Caleb Wales of Trinidad and Tobago will serve as reserve assistant referee.

Beida has officiated at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games and was also part of the refereeing team at last year's FIFA Club World Cup. He has overseen numerous international and continental fixtures in Africa, including the Africa Cup of Nations final between Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire.

Notably, Jordanian referee Adham Makhadmeh became the first Arab referee to officiate a match at the current World Cup, taking charge of Monday's game between Spain and Cape Verde.
