In a meeting between King Abdullah II and US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, King Abdullah II clearly affirmed Jordan's firm position rejecting the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. This position comes in the context of a unified Arab rejection of any attempts aimed at transferring or displacing the Palestinian population from their lands.

During the meeting, the King stressed that the priority should be to rebuild Gaza without displacing its population, and to address the difficult humanitarian situation in the Strip. He also stressed that a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution is the only way to achieve stability in the region. He praised President Trump's role in reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing his aspiration for continued efforts by the US and all parties to consolidate this ceasefire.

Later, the King confirmed in a tweet on the x website 'I reiterated Jordan's firm position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. This is the unified Arab position. Everyone’s priority should be to rebuild Gaza without displacing its people, and to deal with the difficult humanitarian situation in the Strip.”

Jordan believes that any attempts to displace Palestinians from their lands, whether from the West Bank or the Gaza Strip, constitute a direct threat to its national security and internal stability. Given its geographical location and hosting the largest number of Palestinian refugees since the Nakba of 1948, Jordan realizes that any new wave of displacement will lead to disastrous repercussions on the political and economic levels, and will weaken the demographic and social balance within the Kingdom.

Jordan fears that any new forced displacement will undermine the two-state solution: as the displacement of Palestinians effectively means the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, and turning Jordan into an “alternative homeland,” which Jordan categorically rejects.

Not to mention the escalation of internal tensions: as receiving a new wave of displaced persons will put enormous pressure on the infrastructure and services, and may lead to social and economic unrest within the Kingdom.

Jordan is working actively diplomatically to prevent any moves that lead to the displacement of Palestinians, He stresses that the only acceptable solution is the two-state solution. From this standpoint, King Abdullah II has intensified his meetings with regional and international leaders, warning of the danger of any attempts to impose a new reality on the ground, as was clearly demonstrated in his recent meeting with US President Trump.

Jordan has sought to mobilize a unified Arab position to confront these plans, as it raised the issue at Arab summits, and worked in coordination with Egypt and the Gulf states to reject any scenarios that include the forced displacement of Palestinians, due to its disastrous effects on security and stability in the region.

The Arab states, led by Egypt and Jordan, took the initiative to present an alternative proposal based on rebuilding Gaza without displacing its residents, strengthening Palestinian national unity, and ensuring international support for a just and sustainable solution.

This proposal aims to rebuild the Gaza Strip: implement development projects to improve infrastructure and basic services, ensuring the stability of the population in their places, and support Palestinian national unity: enable the Palestinian Authority to manage the Gaza Strip, and enhance reconciliation efforts between Palestinian factions.
