Jordan Condemns Israeli Closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Ban on Worship During Ramadan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the continued closure of the doors of Al-Aqsa Mosque / the Noble Sanctuary by Israeli occupation authorities, which has prevented worshippers from performing religious rites, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. The ministry described this measure as a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the existing legal and historical status, and the unrestricted right of access to places of worship.
The ministry’s official spokesperson, Ambassador Fouad Majali, reaffirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection and denunciation of this unlawful and unjustified action, emphasizing Israel’s continuation of provocative measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque / the Noble Sanctuary and against worshippers. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied city of Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Majali called on Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately cease closing the doors of Al-Aqsa Mosque and to allow unhindered access for worshippers. He also urged the international community to take a firm stance that compels Israel to stop its continuous violations and unlawful practices against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as its breaches of the sanctity of sacred places.
Majali reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its full area of 144 dunams, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, and that the administration of Jerusalem’s Islamic Endowments and the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites, holds the sole legal authority to manage the affairs of the Noble Sanctuary and organize access to it.
