European Union to Provide Jordan with Advanced Radar Systems and Integrated Air Defense
A European source told Amman Net that the European Union has decided to deliver a high value support package to Jordan, including advanced radar systems capable of monitoring airspace, alongside a fully integrated air defense system designed to counter drones and missiles of various types. The move aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s defensive capabilities and enhance its readiness amid mounting regional security challenges.
The support will be provided in the form of a grant from the European Union, with an estimated value of around 35 million euros.
According to the source, the package reflects European confidence in Jordan’s pivotal role in maintaining regional stability and its ability to address escalating threats across the region.
The source added that the European Union places particular emphasis on strengthening air defense systems in partner countries, especially in light of the rapid evolution in the use of drones and non conventional military technologies. Supporting Jordan in this area, the source noted, represents a direct investment in the security of the region as a whole.
In a related development, the source revealed that the European Union is seeking to support Jordan in training Palestinian police personnel from the Gaza Strip inside Jordan, through programs aimed at enhancing security and institutional capacities, in a way that contributes to stability and the development of professional security services.
The source also pointed out that Jordan has recently begun training 200 members of the Syrian police, stressing that the program is fully funded by the Jordanian government and falls within the Kingdom’s broader efforts to support regional stability and strengthen the security capabilities of neighboring countries.
The European source concluded by emphasizing that the partnership between the European Union and Jordan is built on trust and ongoing coordination, encompassing security, defense and development sectors, and expressed the EU’s appreciation for Jordan’s balanced and responsible role in addressing the region’s complex challenges.
