Irbid Municipality Begins Removing Culture Roundabout to Install Smart Traffic Signal

The Greater Irbid Municipality began, early Tuesday, the removal of the Culture Square roundabout in preparation for installing a smart traffic signal, as part of a broader set of traffic solutions aimed at easing congestion in the city.

Municipality spokesperson Ghaith Al-Tal said that municipal crews and machinery started technical and field preparations at the site, noting that the roundabout requires precise infrastructure work to ensure proper installation and electronic integration according to approved traffic standards.

He explained that the current works include clearing soil and trees from the roundabout to facilitate wiring and installation procedures. He added that the surrounding kerbstones (kandarin) will remain unchanged, and no structural modifications to the roundabout will take place at this stage until all technical components of the project are fully prepared and the smart signal system is installed.

Al-Tal pointed out that the new signal will be electronically connected to the city’s coordinated traffic light network, allowing for improved traffic regulation and smoother flow as part of a practical solution adopted by the municipality to address congestion at this key intersection.

The municipality had previously responded, during a Radio Al-Balad discussion under its “maidani Program,” to public calls urging the conversion of the roundabout into a traffic light-controlled intersection.
