Security Court sentences a university student on charges of "insulting" the King on Messenger, his lawyer will appeal

The State Security court sentenced, Tuesday, a university student,  Imad Eddin Issam al 'Ush  to a two year prison term for sending an electronic messages via messenger to the website  Fallujah. He was charged with insulting higher level officials and and inciting sectarianism and racism.  His lawyer plans to appeal.

Advocate Saleh Armouti, the former chair of the Jordanian Bar Association, told "Amman Net" that three computer experts commissioned by the court to examine the student's laptop were unable to find any physical evidence to prove that the messages was sent from it."

Without such proof and in the opinion of experts, legal specialists of electronic crime, in an interviews with Amman Net, this issue does not have the physical evidence required to convict him. One expert witness told the court that he has no way of connecting the alias name used in the message to the defendant.

Advocate Armouti told Radio al Balad, that he is so unhappy with the baseless decision of the state security court that he has decided to boycott this special court and will only go to civilian courts in Jordan.

Issam al 'Ush, Imad's father told Ammannet that his son who was arrested last February was on the threshold of graduation from the university with a BA degree in computer engineering, stressing that "what happened with his son has had a negative impact on the entire family"

The State Security Court, sentenced al 'Ush during a session chaired by the military judge Brigadier Subhi Moas, President of the Court issued  the ruling ordering the imprisonment of the college student for two years,.

The Beirut- based Skeyes Institute criticized the decision as an infringement on media freedoms.
