The Criminal Court has issued a verdict, for the second time, sentencing a young man in Aqaba who stabbed his 17-year-old sister seven times on September 8, 2009, after he became suspicious of her conduct and on the pretext of family "honor," with 10 years in prison.

The initial, appealed verdict was 15 years in prison, which was reduced after the final verdict of the Criminal Court, to which the case returned after being reversed by the Court of Cassation.

The family of the killer and the victim dropped their personal charges against the young man, the decision that led to this five-year reduction in sentence.

The session was presided over by Judge Hayel Al-Omar and the membership of judges Hani Al-Suhaiba and Raed Al-Fauri, as well as the presence of the representative of the attorney general, Judge Anwar Abu Eid.

The murderer was the victim’s brother, who grew suspicious of her behavior and the allegedly long periods of time that she spent outside her home. The brother had many conflicts with the family about his suspicions, until one day he decided to punish her. At the time, the girl was out of the house with her mother. When the victim and her mother returned home, the killer advanced on his sister with a knife, who tried to escape from the house. Her brother pursued her throughout the streets and stabbed her repeatedly in different places of her body until she bled to death.

The autopsy showed that the victim was stabbed seven times in the heart, lungs, and chest, which caused extensive bleeding.

The court’s decision reiterated that the murderer's actions were not justifiable on the grounds of temporary rage, because his sister's behavior was in no way suspicious enough to merit such a response, especially since she was only 17.
