Land Transport Regulatory Commission Director General, the engineer Jamil Mujahid, said that the commission will take all necessary legal action against the  integrated multi-transfer bus company if it is to continue to suspend its services.

Mujahid said in a press statement on Monday that he will run the bus company through another operator in order to ensure that services continue. In addition to cancelling operating agreement contracts, authorities will put new tenders in order to provide services through other companies in the event that the company continues to suspend its services.

The suspension of services began on Monday morning and has caused a state of confusion within the capital, despite attempts by the Secretariat to provide alternative means of transportation to serve the citizens.

The Secretariat provided tourist buses since the morning in an attempt to temporarily resolve the crisis until they come to an understanding with the company. The public transportation services were suspended as a result of a financial crisis, the failure of the Secretariat to pay the company, they announced

The spokesman for the Public Transport Regulatory Commission, Ikhlas Yousef, said that the Authority has transferred approximately 40 buses since the early morning hours in order to ensure the movement of citizens.

She added that the Commission held discussions with the company before the decision was made to suspend work and she demanded that the company raise fares due to rising fuel prices, however the request was rejected by the Commission.

According to the Executive Director of transportation and traffic, Ayman Al-Samadi, "The decision to halt the company's work came without informing the Secretariat, despite talks that have been ongoing for a year and a half with the company concerning improving the services of the company."

The outcome of the talks, according to Al-Samadi, was the Secretariat's commitment to loan the company 250 thousand dinars to cover fuel costs and the staff salaries.

Al-Samadi told AmmanNet that the Secretariat's offer still stands, adding that the company has failed to respond and instead suspended services.

Rizk Hussein, a former employee who was laid off, said that approximately fifty employees stopped working for a month because they hadn't received their salaries as a result of the financial crisis. These laid off workers sat at the bus station platform on Monday morning.

They told AmmanNet that they have filed a complaint to the trade union workers in road transportation, threatening to stage a sit in front of the Council of Ministers if their problem is not resolved.

AmmanNet tried repeatedly to contact company management but did not succeed in reaching officials because of office closures on Saturday.

The trasnportation provided by the Secretariat was not sufficient and private companies needed to donate in order to cover public transportation demands, which included large gatherings of  citizens waiting for a means of transportation in popular neighborhoods around the capital.

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) expressed in a press statement on Sunday that it regretted the company's decision to suspend its integrated public transportation services within their own bus lines as well as the lines of the GAM.

The company's violation to the contractual agreement between themselves and the GAM comes as a surprise to the Secretariat, particularly since there is a committee that was formed specifically by the GAM that is to talk with the company to resolve all ongoing problems.
