IPI calls for release of Egyptian journalist elects Kuttab as vice Chair

The general assembly of IPI voted on two resolutions denouncing the continued detention of AL Jazeera reporter Mahmoud Hussein whom the Egyptian courts ordered that he be released. IPI also issued a strongly worded statement against the extradition orders by the US of the WikiLeaks founder on charges of espionage.

 

IPI holding their annual congress in Geneva also presented Cyril Almeida from the Pakistani Dawn with the IPI World Press Freedom Hero award. Jesper Hoijberg, executive director of the International Media Support presented the Free Media Pioneer Award. It was presented to Lina Atallah of Mada Masr Mada.

 

The executive board of the International Press Institute elected Daoud Kuttab as a vice president and member of the IPI board’s working group.
