Camps demand elected service committees
الرابط المختصر

A campaign to collect signatures on a request form at Palestinian camps in the kingdom has started to allow residents to elect service committees and to stop appointing their members by the Palestinian Affairs Directorate.

This request form that should be submitted to the Palestinian Affairs Directorate during this week hold service committees responsible for low services standards provided to the camps and for chaos taking place inside.

Appointing policy taken by the Palestinian Affairs Directorate to form service committees, according to the request form, has resulted in having isolated committees from camps’ internal issues that has no care for the demands of the residents who they were never a part of.

The form should give these committees a push forward and shall increase the responsible feeling at their members. It shall also force them to take residents’ demands into their considerations as their demands are the reason why they were elected.

This request is against any excuse used to hinder electing this committee as the Palestinian Affairs Directorate indicated to the difficulties pertaining the situation onside the camps and the problems that stop in the way of completing it. The residents who are considered Jordanian citizens and have the right to elect their representatives in the highest legislative authority, the parliament, should at least have the right to elect their local committees such as the camps’ services.

Najeh Aqrabawi, the Camp Affairs Director at the Palestinian Affairs Directorate said that electing the service committees is not a granted right for the time being or the future.

He told AmmanNet that such committees are not municipalities to be elected, they are committees found in the camps for emergency case and unnatural circumstances.
