The Community Media Network, which includes Radio Al-Balad 92.5 FM and Amman Net, is holding its second regional conference under the title “Independent Media… Strong Society” on Monday and Tuesday, 11–12 May 2026, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, under the patronage of Minister of Government Communication Dr. Mohammad Momani.

The conference, held under the patronage of the Minister of Government Communication Dr. Mohammad Momani, serves as a regional platform to discuss the rapidly evolving media landscape and the challenges facing media independence and its societal role amid technological advancement and the growing influence of digital platforms.

The event brings together leading journalists, experts, and policymakers from the Middle East and North Africa. Over two days, the programme will address key transformations in the media sector, particularly the challenges linked to media independence in light of technological development, artificial intelligence, and the expansion of digital influence.

The first day opens with a main session focusing on the overlap in news structures across different media platforms, and the boundaries between privacy and editorial distinction, with participation from experts representing international and regional media institutions.

The second session will examine the future of radio journalism in the era of information technology and artificial intelligence, highlighting both opportunities and challenges for content production. The third session will explore the future of news production and media content amid intensifying digital competition.

The second day includes closed sessions and roundtable discussions, beginning with a session on newsroom independence versus public relations management. This will be followed by a discussion on the role of Jordanian community radio stations in combating misinformation and rumours, as well as a workshop on building regional alliances for community media. The conference will conclude with a closing session announcing the launch of the Middle East and North Africa Community Radio Network (MENA Radio Network).

The Director General of the Community Media Network, Radio Al-Balad, Atf Al-Roudan, stated that the conference coincides with World Press Freedom Day, observed on 3 May. She noted that this timing underscores the importance of independent professional media in promoting media diversity, freedom of expression, and public participation in shaping media content that reflects people’s needs and contributes to building resilient societies capable of facing local, regional, and global challenges.

The second day also includes a workshop on the importance of building regional alliances for community media, in addition to a closing session.
